Turning off the TV for an entire week wasn’t as hard as I anticipated. In fact, it was pretty easy. We ended up playing a lot of games, and retreated to the backyard clubhouse into a world of make-believe. No-TV was good for us. Spending this time together reminded me of why I chose to stay at home with my two young sons - have fun, laugh, wipe away tears, and just enjoy being a mom.
I had the good fortune to have a mom who stayed at home too. Unfortunately, we lost her to cancer a couple of years ago, but I’m left with such wonderful memories of a mom who always had time for me and my brother. She was known as the fun mom, who was willing to get on the floor and play games or even go roller skating. In the end, it’s the memories that we are left with, and my mom created more than a few good ones.
On another note, I must say that I neglected to mention in my “Princess Mommy” blog, that in addition to some wonderful cleaning supplies for Christmas, my husband surprised me with another gift, something that I have been wanting since I was a little girl. Ironically, TV played a role in desiring this gift. You see, Samantha Stephens of “Bewitched” has always been my favorite TV mom. Sam always wore a sparkly heart necklace that I adored. To me, she was so beautiful and I loved how she outsmarted her husband Darrin. I especially got a kick out of how she would come up with a better ad campaign at the last moment, and make it look as if it was Darrin’s idea. She did this without even using her witchcraft. But, the best part of the show was the magic.
Well, thanks to my husband, I’m now wearing a sparkly heart, just like Samantha. I just wish I had the magical powers to go with it.
I’m wondering, who is your favorite TV mom?

I have a soft spot for Roseanne, just because she reminds me of a few family members (not necessarily because I agree with her crazy antics).
Clair Huxtable on “The Cosby Show” was my favorite though … a working mom who could still keep her kids — and husband — in line.
On the more recent TV show, “Brothers and Sisters,” I really love Sally Fields … she plays a believable mom — in all the good AND bad ways.
I second the Clair Huxtable comment. She was balanced. I also liked the mom from Growing Pains!
Meredith Baxter on Family Ties…..and strangely- June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver (I went thru a retro TV phase in highschool- even had a T-shirt that said “I love The Beave” on it!)……those are two totally different kinda of moms of course…and I think I wanted to be a combo of both of them!…..yeah- I am learning that is an impossible goal!
My favorite TV mom is Morticia Addams. She had it all — a mansion, an adoring husband, two well behaved children – all while looking fabulous in that sleek black dress.
