Happy Birthday to my daughter

June 21st, 2008, 7:30 am · 12 Comments · posted by Suzanne Broughton, Contributing Writer

My daughter turns seven today. I know, I can’t believe it either. Seems like just yesterday she look like this picture from her birth announcement.Baby Emily

(Click on the picture to enlarge.)

I don’t have a lot to write about today since I have been busy this week with all the birthday celebrations, end of school activities, and preparations for summer.

I just want to say “Happy Birthday” to my little girl.

This is the song I used to sing her when she was a baby and she sometimes still asks me to sing it to her now:

“Your Song,” by Elton John.

“Yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen”

Do you have a song any special songs with your kids?

Okay now I’m getting all weepy thinking about those baby days. The photo of Emily is adorable. I love that Elton John song too…makes me feel so good when I hear it.

I used to sing “Close To You” by the Carpenters to both of my boys - On the day that you were born the angels got together…

    Happy Birthday Emily!

  • Adorable. I see she was a true beauty from birth!
Song well…this is gonna sound horrible BUT I used to sing with a total italian accent:
“What’s a matta you? Why you looka so sad? Its a nice-a place…ah, shut uppa you face.”

Its an actual song from somewhere…it has a tune and stuff. Maybe an old Louie Prima song (I love me some Louie)….I’ll sing it for you next time we are together. So you can see it is funny and not at all abusive like it looks in writing!!!!

Oh I sang that and “You are my sunshine”…cuz my boys ARE my sunshine ya know!

    Adorable!! Happy birthday to Emily!

I cannot wait until all of our the songs start flowin’ out for our baby boy. So far, Ben has sung “Close to You” by the Carpenters, especially for the part:
“On the day that you were born, the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true”

Besides that, though, I’ve only come up with the cutesy ones, like, “Baby Mine.” I’m sure there will be lots more though :)

  • I’ve always liked the Frankie Valli song, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. Coincidentally, when our son was born we heard it on the way home from the hospital. That’s our song for him.

I sing my son “Return to pooh corner.” It is such a cute song and he thinks it’s funny when pooh gets his nose stuck in the honey jar.

  • Gina Ross says:

i sing to my son evan “cheek to cheek” by louis armstrong:

“evan…i’m in heaven…and my heart beats so that i can hardly speak…and i seem to find the happiness i seek…when we’re out together dancing cheek to cheek”

    happy birthday emily!

What a beautiful daughter you have! Hope the birthday was joyous.

I second “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” and also love to sing “Isn’t She Lovely.”

  • lisa mertins says:

happy birthday emily. born one day and (dang, gonna have to stop a sec to do math!) fourteen years after my daughter jordan. and now, i’ll cry remembering her childhood. officially.

  • lisa mertins says:

elton’s song “the greatest discovery” chokes up both joe AND me (him being more of a softy)

  • Cynthia says:

My song for our first born was/is “Beautiful” by Christina A. I would sing it to him when he was a baby and he would giggle and coo. He’s five now.

  • Heather says:

    Aww, too sweet. Happy Birthday!

One of my favorites to sing to my little guy is “To Make You Feel My Love” by Garth Brooks (written by Bob Dylan). “… Go to the ends of the earth for you. Make you happy make your dreams come true. To make you feel my - love.” *sniff*
