Disney invited local mom bloggers out to Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat Party at California Adventure. My family and I are Disneyland annual pass holders and go to the parks about once a month, but have never gone to this special event. So, the kids got all dressed up–Troy Boulton & girl pirate–and we made the fifteen minute trip to the park.
Despite Disney’s insistence on promoting candy corn–the foulest candy ever made–we all had a spooktacular time. A frightfully sinisterific experience. (One more) It was scary fun. It’s sure to become a family tradition, like ice cream on Christmas morning.
Holding desperately to the belief that my videos are entertaining and because I was unable to keep it under the optimal two and half minutes, I made this 3:30 minute video about the night. Yes, I talk about the confection crime that is candy corn, and yes, it includes ’80s music.
****COVERT OFFICE BLOG READERS PLEASE NOTE ****
The first 20 seconds of this video starts off loud, (!) with raucous music. Take a minute and turn down your volume, then quickly peek over your shoulder to make sure the coast is clear…I’ll wait…Okay?…now enjoy.

Just to make it clear that this was a FREEBIE event that Disney used to get media bloggers to give their park free advertising on their blogs. Disney media people are brilliant at getting media people to come to their parties and promote their park for free. Personally I don’t accept freebies.. Regarding Mickey’s Trick or Treat party, I bought a $29 ticket like everyone else and brought my kids on the 17th and I agree, it was a really fun event.
Suz - Great video. However, I’m not sure about that Pooh Bear you saw.
Marla - What Disney’s PR people are doing is nothing new and I wouldn’t consider it a brillant either. It’s just another way of getting the word out about their product. I don’t know why you thnk it’s such a big deal. You make it sound like Mickey Mouse is trying to bribe you.
Just to clarify: Disney did invite mom bloggers (not just from this blog but from many others) to its Trick or Treat party and offered free entrance. It would not be proper for Marla to accept such an invitation without paying since she is a Register staff writer. Suzanne, on the other hand, is not on the Register staff. She is someone from the community who writes her blog for free. And she did make it clear in this post that she was invited by Disney to this event.
Funny video and an interesting take on Disneyland. It is nice to see you blogging here again….but, OMG… just when I had committed to keeping the negativity of Marla Jo from polluting my eyes and mind, she meddles and stinks up what is supposed to be a positive blog post. Does Marla Jo ever have a good day or a positive outlook on anything?
We have gone for the past 3 years on Halloween and the kids love it. Especially my daughter, new year new princess. By the time she is every princess she’ll be old enought to want to be something other than a princess. My boys also love it. Can’t wait for the 31st this year. I especially like the parade at the end of the night
Mrs. Broughton,
I am a PR major at USC and am writing a paper on Disney’s PR department. I would love to get your perspective on Disneyland events and any dealings with the PR department. You would really be helping me out, I still need a second interview! You can contact me at mpaton@usc.edu if you are interested.
Thanks!
