Hey mamas, how about helping out this mom who is new to the area in her quest to find a great place to take her daughter on Halloween:

Hi all -

We just moved to the area and have no idea about Trick or Treat times and the best neighborhoods to take our daughter to. She is 2.5 years old, and we really want to find a neighborhood with GREAT houses - all decorated and “in the spirit”. We are in Irvine.  Please help!!! Any and all comments are appreciated!

So if you live in Irvine and can suggest a great trick-or-treating neighborhood, please share it here.

Even if you don’t live in Irvine but know of trick-or-treat spots in O.C. that are worth a little drive, let us know about those too.

Thanks.

Happy Halloween from The Mom Blog:

Maybe this will come off as uncharitable, but why doesn’t she trick or treat in her own neighborhood? I always saw the fun in my friends’ parents eyes when they saw us at the door shouting “trick or treat, Mrs Jones!”

But then again, maybe they live in apartments and those are not really fun for trick or treating unfortunately.

I’m guessing that her neighborhood is not “in the spirit” this year. We had that problem in our neighborhood the first year we moved in. Every house was dark and there were NO decorations out for 3 blocks surrounding our house. (We later found out many of our neighbors are immigrants from countries that don’t celebrate Halloween, or Christmas for that matter. Something the real estate agent failed to mention.) We ended up wandering over to the next neighborhood over, which was filled with decorations and kids. Since Saturday lets you get an early start, I’d suggest she drive around to nearby neighborhoods and look for decorated areas and signs of life. Neighborhoods next to schools usually have alot going on. Not sure where she is in Irvine, but the District is supposed to have some events going on for the little ones Halloween afternoon, and Woodbridge always seems filled with kids, so there is probably alot going on there, too.

I am the Mom in question, and yes, we live in apartments - no one hands out candy here - I asked - and even the houses and condos near us have NO decorations or anything - I asked some local moms at the park nearby and none of them hand out candy either - they all go elsewhere - but none shared where - my daughter doesn’t need a lot - just a few nicely decorated houses to say Trick or Treat - she’s been practicing for days!!! I am not trying to “find the motherlode” just a nice place to take my daughter so that she has a wonderful Halloween - we lost that when we moved down here.

We’d like houses to visit - not a shopping district. Any thoughts?? And what time do the festivities start??

    Thank you.
