I have four, count ‘em, four soccer games to sit through Saturday. Each of my kids has two games due to end-of-season tournament play. That is a total of five hours of nonstop action.
They may have to put me in the soccer mom ward at the hospital with an overdose along with the other moms who have succumbed to sunstroke, injuries sustained chopping up oranges, heart attacks due to their kid’s play that day and all the moms who just need to get some sleep.
At least in baseball season, when your kid isn’t at bat you can kind of relax a little and zone out. But if you blink during a soccer game, you might miss your kid scoring their only goal of the year.
Curly Girl only scored one goal this year, but it was a very exciting moment indeed and, unlike last year, she’s on a team that actually wins occasionally. So that has been nice.
Cheetah Boy has been playing well, as usual, since he loves soccer.
I can’t say I’ll be sad to give up the haul-them-to-two-practices-a-week-each routine. I’m taking this parenting class called “Mindful Parenting” that’s supposed to teach you to actually listen to your kids (isn’t that ridiculous?) and have a closer relationship during the teen years.
One of the homework assignments was just to sit down to family dinners this week. I felt like saying, “Can you call my kids’ coaches and tell them that?” Generally, the kids eat in shifts, since they have practice, Boy Scouts and Campfire at different time essentially every day of the week.
I think that’s one reason I like to take them away on vacation. Then, we’re all stuck together all the time. Like it, or not. And no one has to watch soccer.

You can’t safely sit through five hours of soccer without the health benefits of chocolate. You’ll need a thermos of hot chocolate, Teddy Grahams chocolate crackers, some cheese and crackers, and sugar free chocolate pudding. Oh, and they will have snacks for the kids……this is for YOU !
Pace yourself !
Oh you are SO RIGHT! Cheetah Boy’s first game is at 8 a.m. ugh though no time
Who’s the mom who suggested Chocolate? I’d follow her advice, she obviously knows what she’s talking about.
Hello!
It’s “down to earth” enjoy it.. again
I actually LOVED being outside and soaking up the fresh air of the outdoors, usually in the shade, with lots of water, including a squirt bottle for myself too.
I always had moms come up to me and be shocked at my yelling and screaming for the team to go! Score! (They thought that I was quiet, until then…) I could yell and get any tension out of my system!
I DO miss those days!
My kids never told me to shut up either!
The only thing funny - my oldest son told me that I could NOT bring my crocheting to any game…(this embarrassed him…)Of course I obeyed!
Wowser! By now you are probably worn out and fast asleep. I hope everyone had a great day and won all their games.
Isn’t there a co-ed team where they could play together? That’s a lot of soccer practice and games for mom!
I have to admit that I really dislike soccer and I pray my kid wants to do softball or lacrosse or cricket or something else. The rest of it, I enjoy - the being outdoors, the team spirit and sense of independence/teamwork they learn. Hope the weekend went well!
